Checking your seal is straightforward and safe: close the door, kneel at the threshold, and look for gaps while someone shines a flashlight from the opposite side. Measuring the retainer channel width (typically 1/4 inch, 5/16 inch, or T-slot) with a tape measure tells you which seal profile to order.

Where DIY goes wrong: forcing a mismatched seal profile into the retainer, which deforms the mounting legs and guarantees early failure; or stripping the retainer screws in aluminum, which then requires drilling and re-tapping. The seal must be cut to length with a clean square end, not scissors, to seat properly at the corners. If your Craftsman door has a Clopay-style integrated bottom seal retainer, the panel may need partial disassembly to access it.
